"I ain't got no money. I ain't like those other guys you hang around." ~Prince
April 21st, 2016 was a tough day. I had spent the previous 34 years being a huge Prince fan. And living in Minneapolis, and knowing the right people, I was fortunate enough to spend a few hundred evenings with him. Dance parties, private performances, rehearsals. I was very fortunate. And then he left this life on that 21st day in April.
And then a weird thing happened. When you spend 34-years being a major Prince fan, no one cares except other Prince fans. But on that day, the entire world turned purple. It was insane. It was completely unexpected, and it did a great job of chasing the clouds away.
Of course, the city of Minneapolis went purple. I made sure to get my camera and went to a few favorite places that I like to shoot photographs of the Minneapolis Skyline from. For this particular photo, I was on an old railroad bridge that spans the Mississippi River just east of the 35W bridge. The bridge is now a pedestrian bridge, and while there, I ran into a handful of other local photographers that I know. So many people were out celebrating Prince's life, it was crazy. It was fun.
As the lights started turning on, I took this closeup of the Minneapolis skyline. You can see the 35W bridge lit up in purple, and the reader board on the Guthrie Theater was also lit up in purple. More purple came out as the evening sky took over. It was a very beautiful night seeing this city decked out in Purple.
I hope you enjoy this Minneapolis Skyline Purple photo, and please feel free to share it!
