"Maybe I'm just like my father, too bold." ~Prince
I adore Prince. He has been by far my favorite artist since I first heard 1999 back when I was 14 in 1982. I have been fortunate to live in an area that gave me access to all his parties and shows he has put on through the years. Between his shows at Glam Slam, and at his Paisley Park Studios, I've seen him perform over 300 times or so. I made many lifelong friends during that time, and I had the unbelievable opportunities to party with my lifelong idol. I still have to pinch myself sometimes.
So on that 21st day of April 2016, like many others, I was devastated. Nearly two years later, like many others, part of me still is. That evening, on April 21st, the city of Minneapolis put on all-night Prince parties. Actually, they did that the entire weekend. The entire city also turned purple in memoriam of Prince on that evening and through the weekend. I made sure to get out with my camera to take photos of the purple skyline on the night of the 21st. I didn't go to any of the parties. I just don't think I could have handled it. But I did get this photograph (and others as well) showing the purple lights on the City of Minneapolis as we all celebrated Prince's life. It was very healing for me to be out photographing all of the purple in the city that night. Though it was also difficult photographing it trying to focus through all the tears.
I simply titled this one Purple for Prince. I hope you enjoy this Minneapolis Purple Lights Photograph, and please feel free to share it if you do!
