The 1871 Eagle Harbor Lighthouse stands watch over Lake Superior, glowing gold beneath a sky thick with stars, the Big Dipper turning directly overhead.
I hope this piece brings a little of that Upper Peninsula night sky into your space. Feel free to share it with anyone who loves lighthouses or a star-filled night as much as I do.
Dipper Over Eagle Harbor is available in Metal and Acrylic. Each print is made to order, and all orders over $99 ship free within the continental United States. Looking for a custom size? Reach out here and I'll take care of it.
My parents grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and I spent a huge part of my childhood up here, but somehow I had never once seen the Eagle Harbor Lighthouse until this trip. What stopped me wasn't even the building. It was how many stars were still visible while there was still light left in the sky over Lake Superior.
The lighthouse building isn't normally lit at night. While I had the shutter open, a couple walked by wearing headlamps, and without meaning to, they light-painted the building for me. That warm glow across the brick is entirely unplanned, one of those moments you can't ask for and can't recreate.
Above it all, the Big Dipper hangs in the sky, pointing the way over one of the most historic harbors on the Great Lakes. This piece is a great fit for anyone who loves lighthouses, night sky photography, or Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
Metal is the top pick for this image; the glossy surface makes the beacon, the stars, and that light-painted brick genuinely glow, with deep blacks in the night sky that paper can't quite match. Acrylic is a strong second choice if you want even more depth and a museum-glass look.
