Some photographs require patience. Some require skill. This one required both, plus a window of about thirty seconds.
Crescent Over Minneapolis was captured from Tower Hill Park on a July evening in 2025, as a slim crescent moon descended toward the downtown skyline. The city lights were just beginning to take hold, warm amber from the US Bank Stadium roof, the soft glow of the IDS Tower and surrounding buildings, while the summer sky held that rare in-between color that only exists for a few minutes after sunset. Too early and the moon disappears into daylight. Too late, and the sky goes dark. The window is narrow, and the moon doesn't wait.
The result is an image that feels both cosmic and familiar. The Minneapolis skyline you know, under a sky that reminds you how small and fleeting the city, and everything in it, really is.
This piece works quietly. It doesn't demand attention so much as reward it. On a bedroom wall or above a reading chair, it brings the kind of calm that only comes from looking up at the right moment.
