This photograph of the Dallas skyline was captured on my first night in the city, and it turned out to be one I’ll never forget. When I arrived at this overlook, I was surprised to find a dozen other photographers already set up. Then I saw the city’s skyline glowed in unexpected colors: purple and gold.

It wasn’t long after that I learned why: Dallas had lit up its skyline in honor of Kobe Bryant, just days after his passing. The city’s gesture created an unplanned moment of unity and quiet reflection. Photographers, residents, and visitors alike gathered to capture the tribute.

The flowing light trails of the freeway lead straight into the illuminated heart of Dallas, creating a powerful symbol of connection between movement and stillness, memory and tribute.
