A Winter's Night at Lake of the Isles
Jun 24, 2024
The allure of capturing the perfect night shot, especially when the celestial spectacle of a Wolf Moon is involved, can be both thrilling and a little daunting. As a photographer, I've definitely had my fair share of evenings spent scouting locations, only to find myself off by a mile (or more!) when it comes to predicting the moon's exact rising position.
Such was the case on this crisp January night in 2023 at Lake of the Isles. I had staked out a spot on the southwest shore, hoping to catch the Wolf Moon rising majestically behind the Minneapolis skyline. While waiting, I was captivated by the beauty of the winter wonderland that surrounded me. The snow lay pristine on the ground, and a house across the lake glowed warmly, its Christmas tree a beacon of light in the stillness of the night.
I knew this scene, unexpected as it was, deserved to be captured in its own right. And so, I did what any photographer would do: I took the shot.
While the Wolf Moon eventually rose as planned, gracing the Minneapolis skyline with its ethereal glow, this photograph, "Lake of the Isles Minneapolis Winter," is a testament to the beauty that can be found, often unexpectedly, when we embrace the moment.
The "Lake of the Isles Minneapolis Winter" print is available for purchase on my website. It is available in a variety of sizes, and is sure to add a touch of winter magic to any home.
