Winter Skyline and the River 3 - William Drew

The allure of a winter cityscape at night is undeniable. The stark contrast of a snow-covered landscape against the twinkling lights of a metropolis creates a scene both peaceful and captivating. In "Winter Skyline and the River 3," I aimed to capture this very essence of Minneapolis during the coldest season. 

The photo was taken from the 42nd Avenue Bridge, which spans both I-94 and the Mississippi River. I wasn't alone in my artistic pursuit that night; roughly two dozen other photographers shared the same creative vision. Our common goal? To capture the magic of the BNSF Christmas Train as it chugged across the railroad bridge in the foreground. 

While waiting for the train's grand arrival, I couldn't help but be drawn to the beauty of the scene before me. The Minneapolis skyline, although distant, cast a warm glow against the inky night sky. The Mississippi River, a vital artery of the city, flowed serenely beneath the frosty air. And the Lowry Bridge, a local landmark, added a vibrant splash of color with its iconic arch. 

In "Winter Skyline and the River 3," I wanted to showcase the harmony that exists between the natural world and the urban landscape, even in the depth of winter. The stillness of the river is juxtaposed against the twinkling lights of the city, creating a sense of tranquility amidst the urban buzz. The pop of color from the Lowry Bridge serves as a reminder of the vibrancy that persists even in the coldest of seasons. 

This photograph is a testament to the beauty of Minneapolis throughout the year. Even on the coldest winter nights, the city has a magic all its own.
