Paisley Park at Night - William Drew

As a lifelong Prince fan, I knew you had to capture Paisley Park in a photograph. The iconic recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota, was Prince's creative sanctuary, and I wanted this photo, "Paisley Park at Night," to be a stunning tribute to the Purple One's legacy. 

 The photo features the imposing image of Paisley Park bathed in the cool glow of the night sky. The building's architectural details are sharp against the darkness, and the symbolic purple lights crowning the roof add a touch of mystery and intrigue. 

More Than Just a Photo

 "Paisley Park at Night" is more than just a beautiful photograph; it's a memento of a bygone era. Prince was a musical genius who redefined pop music, and Paisley Park was his playground. The photo captures the essence of that creative spirit, and it's sure to resonate with any Prince fan. 

A lifelong dream

There are moments that stick with you forever, and December 25th, 1982, is permanently etched in my brain. I was just 14 years old, and one of my Christmas presents was a classic clock radio – the kind everyone had back in the 80s. That night, eager to try it out, I plugged it in my room, flipped on the local pop station, and the very first song that blasted through the tiny speakers? Prince's iconic "1999." My jaw hit the floor. I was instantly smitten. From that moment on, Prince became my musical obsession, my favorite entertainer, a true artist who redefined what music could be. 

 Luckily, fate had something incredible in store for me. I managed to make some incredible connections within Prince's circle. Glam Slam, his legendary nightclub, became a second home, where I spent nights soaking up the atmosphere a few times a week. But the real magic happened at Paisley Park. For hundreds of nights, I was fortunate enough to be there during his legendary "parties" – which, let's be honest, were more like intimate Prince concerts. Across those visits, I witnessed him perform live a staggering number of times – a few hundred to be exact! Each and every one was a spellbinding experience, a masterclass in musical innovation and sheer talent. 

 Just like the cast at the end of Prince's New Girl cameo, I often found myself speechless after a performance, trying to process the musical genius I'd just witnessed. While I never had a conversation with Prince, there were countless interactions. Through those, I knew he recognized me – the occasional glance, a subtle acknowledgement. Then, after one particularly memorable night, a friend who worked for Prince told me something that still makes me shake my head: Prince trusted me. Hearing those words from someone who knew him so well was beyond surreal. 

All those experiences, the music, the energy, the countless nights at Paisley Park – it all became a part of me. So, when they added his symbol to the outside of the building, a permanent tribute to his legacy, I knew I had to capture it. Paisley Park wasn't just a recording studio; it was a creative sanctuary, a place where magic happened. And with "Paisley Park at Night," I wanted to share a glimpse of that magic, a visual representation of the profound impact Prince and his music have had on my life.
