A peaceful part of Magic Kingdom is about to fade into Disney history.
On July 7th, 2025, the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Belle will close to make way for future attractions. For many guests, this news has stirred deep feelings. These areas were part of the original Walt Disney World experience when the park first opened in 1971, and they’ve quietly carried that sense of nostalgia ever since.
For me, this corner of the park has always been a nighttime favorite. While most guests rush to the big-name rides, I’ve often found myself drawn to the river at night. There’s a special kind of magic that settles over the Rivers of America after dark. The crowds thin. The water stills. The reflections of lanterns, the Liberty Belle, and even the Haunted Mansion shimmer softly in the quiet.
