The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Right Print Size for Your Space
Aug 29, 2025

Choosing the right size artwork for your wall can feel overwhelming. Too small, and it disappears into the background. Too large, and it can overpower the room. The good news? With a few simple guidelines, you can find the perfect balance and select art that makes your space feel complete.
The Rule of Thumb: 60–75%
A simple rule to follow is this: artwork should take up 60–75% of the wall space above your furniture.
- Above a sofa? Choose a print that’s at least two-thirds the width of the couch.
- Over a bed? Pick a size that spans most of the headboard.
- For hallways or smaller spaces? Group smaller prints into a gallery wall to fill the visual space.
This balance helps the art feel connected to the room, rather than floating awkwardly on the wall.
A Tool to Help You Decide
To make it even easier, every print on my website includes an Augmented Reality (AR) tool. With this tool, you can use your phone or tablet to see exactly how a specific print size will look on your wall in relation to your furniture. It literally places the artwork into your space before you buy.
Now, you might be shopping for art from another artist and came across this guide while figuring out sizing, and that’s okay. While the AR tool was designed to help people buy my art, it will still work as long as you select one of my prints that shares the same dimensions as the piece you’re considering elsewhere.
To use it, you only need two things:
- A smartphone or tablet.
- About 10 feet of space to step back from your wall so the AR tool can display the correct dimensions.
From there, simply point your phone at your wall, toggle between the different sizes, and watch how the artwork scales in real time. It’s the easiest way to avoid guessing and make sure your art is the perfect fit.
Final Thought
Choosing the right size artwork isn’t about following strict rules; it’s about creating harmony between your art, your furniture, and your space. When you get the size right, the art doesn’t just hang on the wall, it transforms the entire room.
