Choosing the right size artwork for your wall can feel overwhelming. Too small, and it disappears into the background. Too large, and it can overpower the room. The good news? With a few simple guidelines, you can find the perfect balance and select art that makes your space feel complete.

The Rule of Thumb: 60–75% 

A simple rule to follow is this: artwork should take up 60–75% of the wall space above your furniture. 

• Above a sofa? Choose a print that’s at least two-thirds the width of the couch. 
• Over a bed? Pick a size that spans most of the headboard. 
• For hallways or smaller spaces? Group smaller prints into a gallery wall to fill the visual space. 

This balance helps the art feel connected to the room, rather than floating awkwardly on the wall.

A Tool to Help You Decide
