I have enjoyed what can only be called an infatuation of photographing Walt Disney World's Animal Kingdom theme park at night. Through most of this theme parks existence, it was something you could only do during the winter months when the sun set earlier in the day. There isn't a lot of photographic areas at night at the Animal Kingdom, well, at least not compared to the Magic Kingdom, but Expedition Everest and the Tree of Life are both spectacular at night. 

A few months before I made my November 2016 trip to Walt Disney World, they started a nighttime projection show on the Tree of Life, and also started new colorful lights instead of the standard lighting they had used since the parks original opening back in 1998. The day I took this photo was the one and only day I have ever seen both the projection show and these new colorful lights.

I started off being out in front of the Tree of Life so that I could watch the projection show. I did get a few nice photos of that show that will also be found on this website. The time I watched it they had technical issues with the sound, so along with the rest of the crowd, I watched a silent film featuring a deer running through the forest. When the show ended, I packed up my camera and tripod and started heading back to the area by the Dawa Bar. They have an area there with conga drums that kids are typically beating on all day long, and that area also has this beautiful view of the Tree of Life that you see in this image. However, shortly after I started walking away from the front of the Tree of Life, the show restarted, this time with sound. I wasn't in a good spot to photograph it, but I watched it again to get the full experience before heading back to that Dawa Bar area.

I then set up my tripod and camera there, and I was joyfully taking photos of all the different colors they used on the Tree of Life. This orange one is by far the most brilliant color they used. And then for one brief moment, they turned on a handful of searchlights that shot out of the tree. Thankfully I had my shutter open at the time so I was able to capture a photo like this showing the rays of light emanating from the tree.
