A soft autumn morning along Minnesota’s St. Louis River, where fog drifts across still water and faint fall color quietly emerges through the mist.
Some mornings feel like the world hasn’t fully woken up yet.
This was one of those mornings.
I was exploring Jay Cooke State Park just after sunrise, about an hour before capturing Sunlight Through the Fog. The river valley was completely wrapped in mist. thick enough that distance simply disappeared.
The trees across the St. Louis River weren’t sharp or bold.
They were barely there.
Just silhouettes.
Hints of autumn color.
Soft shapes fading into gray.
The water was perfectly still, turning the entire scene into a quiet mirror. Forest above. Forest below. Reality and reflection blending together until it felt almost abstract.
Nothing dramatic.
Nothing loud.
Just calm.
