Few nights capture the energy of Minneapolis quite like Aquatennial fireworks night, and in "Aquatennial Fireworks 2018 – Minneapolis Summer Celebration," the city glows with summer spirit, light, and color.
Shot from the Plymouth Avenue Bridge, this fine art print brings together three icons in one electric composition: the Boom Island Lighthouse, the Aquatennial fireworks, and the glowing skyline of downtown Minneapolis. I had never photographed from this exact spot before, and was a little uneasy; no other photographers had set up on the bridge, which is rare on a night like this. I began to second-guess everything.
But when the first fireworks exploded across the sky and the reflections danced on the water, it was clear: this view was the hidden gem. Sometimes, going your own way pays off.
This photo is more than just fireworks; it’s a celebration of bold choices, of local tradition, and of a city that knows how to put on a show.
My work has been featured at Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport (Terminal 1) and the Minneapolis Convention Center, and can be seen in person at my studio in Gallery Aurora at the Northrup King Building, Minneapolis.
