Minneapolis is full of odd pairings, but this one might take the cake. The Gay 90's is a downtown institution that's been running strong since long before my bar-hopping days, and decades later it's still packing people in, still carrying its notorious reputation, still going strong. I captured this one the night I was out photographing the Minneapolis Central Library. The library and the Gay 90's sit on opposite corners of the very same intersection, quiet stacks of books on one side, decades of nightlife legend on the other. Doesn't get much more Minneapolis than that.
Bars come and go, but very few stick around this long while staying this popular. That's a run worth photographing, and this piece is a great fit for anyone who loves downtown Minneapolis, neon-lit nightlife, or a bit of local legend on their wall.
Looks Best On
For a night shot with this much neon and motion, I recommend a High Gloss Metal print; it keeps the light trails sharp and the sign's colors vivid in a way canvas can't quite match. Acrylic is also a great option if you want even more depth and a glass-like shine, and it's available on Fine Art Paper as well if you prefer a more traditional, matte finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size should I choose?
Use the Live Preview AR tool to see the actual size on your own wall using your phone or tablet, or the Wall Preview tool to see it staged in a sample room. Both are available right on this page.
What's the difference between the materials?
Metal prints have a smooth, modern finish with vivid color and contrast — a great match for a night shot like this. Acrylic adds extra depth and a glossy, glass-like look. Fine Art Paper gives a more traditional, matte presentation if you prefer that over a glossy finish.
Where was this photographed?
This was shot at the corner of N 4th St in downtown Minneapolis, across the intersection from the Minneapolis Central Library.
How long does production take?
Each print is made to order once you place your request. Metal and paper prints typically ship within 5 business days; acrylic prints take a bit longer, usually 8-10 business days.
Is shipping included?
Yes, all orders over $99 ship free within the continental United States.
