This one wasn't planned. I was out in downtown Minneapolis looking for things to photograph, with no particular shot in mind, when the view down Nicollet Mall caught my eye. I set up along Washington Avenue and let the traffic do the rest of the work, stretching the headlights and taillights into long ribbons of light as the cars passed through the frame. The Marq rises just beyond the street, its glow anchoring the scene against the dark sky.
It's a shot about motion and stillness at the same time; the city moving fast in the foreground while the buildings stand fixed behind it. This piece is a great fit for anyone who loves Minneapolis, downtown cityscapes, or the energy of a city after dark.
Looks Best On
For a night shot like this one, I recommend a High Gloss Metal print. Metal holds the depth of the blacks and keeps the light trails looking sharp and vivid in a way canvas can't quite match. Acrylic is also a strong option if you want even more depth and a glass-like shine, and it's available on Fine Art Paper as well if you prefer a more traditional, matte finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size should I choose?
Use the Live Preview AR tool to see the actual size on your own wall using your phone or tablet, or the Wall Preview tool to see it staged in a sample room. Both are available right on this page.
What's the difference between the materials?
Metal prints have a smooth, modern finish with vivid color and contrast — a great match for a night shot like this. Acrylic adds extra depth and a glossy, glass-like look. Fine Art Paper gives a more traditional, matte presentation if you prefer that over a glossy finish.
Where was this photographed?
This was shot in downtown Minneapolis, looking down Nicollet Mall with Washington Avenue running through the foreground.
