There is a moment along the Mississippi River when everything softens.
The traffic hum fades into the background. The wind settles. The surface of the water smooths into glass. And the city, bold and bright just minutes earlier, becomes reflective.
I captured this image from the Plymouth Avenue Bridge, just north of downtown Minneapolis. From this vantage point, the skyline stretches wide, from the Hennepin Avenue Bridge and Guthrie Theater on the left to the glowing towers of downtown rising in the center. The reflections double the architecture, turning steel and glass into streaks of color across the river.
This is part of my ongoing love affair with the Mississippi River. No matter how many times I return, the reflections are never the same. Each calm evening brings a new version of the skyline, more intimate, more peaceful, more layered.
